About me
Hi there...
My name is Madison Petersen. I am a strategic sports marketer seeking my next opportunity. My hope is to find a fulfilling career with a company or sports team that makes me feel excited to wake up everyday.
From a young age, I’ve had a love of playing and watching sports. During college, I found my love for marketing and communications and decided the best career path for me was one that combined both of my passions.
I have over four years of experience in the sports industry at both agencies and collegiate athletics departments and six years of experience in the marketing and communications sector. I am highly skilled in marketing, communications, social media management, public relations, media relations, sponsorship activation, business development, and research and insight analytics.
I recently graduated from the University of Oregon MBA program with a concentration in sports business from the world-renowned Warsaw Sports Marketing Center.
During my time with the the Warsaw Sports Marketing Center, I learned so much about sports business and had the opportunity to take experiential learning trips around the country and to Asia.
While attending the University of Oregon, I worked for the Oregon Athletics Department as an athletic communications graduate assistant. I worked with the football, men’s basketball, women’s lacrosse, and acrobatics and tumbling teams by handling all aspects of strategic communications, media relations, and social media.
I also had the opportunity to intern with Burns Entertainment & Sports Marketing as an advertising and public relations intern during the summer of 2019 in Evanston, Illinois. While at Burns Entertainment, I learned extensively about celebrity, athlete, and influencer marketing, while handling responsibilities dealing with marketing research, public relations, and business development.
Before Oregon, I attended the University of Iowa, where I graduated in 2018 with three Bachelor’s degrees in Journalism & Mass Communications, Communications Studies, and Sports & Recreation Management.
During my time at the University of Iowa, I first discovered my love for sports marketing when I worked as an athletic communications student assistant at the University of Iowa Athletics Department. I handed public relations and media relations surrounding the women’s basketball, women’s gymnastics, and women’s golf teams.
Throughout my education, I have also interned with Marriott Hotels, the Iowa Institute of Human Genetics, and the Iowa Center for Public Affiars Journalism.
Before attending the University of Iowa, I grew up as an Iowa native, along the banks of the Mississippi River. One of my favorite things to do in Iowa is to go boating with my family.
One of my favorite things to do is going boating with my family. Meet my baby sister, Tatum.
In my spare time, I also enjoy spending time with my friends, being outside, and cheering on my favorite sports teams.
Even with the challenging times our world and the sports industry is facing, I couldn’t be more excited about my future. Nothing brings the world together like sports, and there has never been a time when we’ve needed some type of unity and common happiness more. Sports marketing is my passion and the thing that has consumed my everyday life for the past four years. I can’t wait to see where my next chapter will take me. 💛
